We are delighted to announce that Jeff Barrett of Horsham FC, has won The Bobby Moore Award as part of England Football’s Grassroots Football Awards.

Awarded to the volunteer that represents the best of grassroots football in the county. We’re looking for someone or a group of people who are truly exceptional.

Jeff has been at the heart of Horsham Football Club and local grass roots football for over 50 years, serving the club in a range of roles to this current day.

A current life member of the club, Jeff took up the role of treasurer in 1974 and went on to hold the positions of committee vice chairman, programme editor, turnstile operator, steward, stadium announcer and club secretary, he is currently a life member and club president.

A registered referee for 25 years, Jeff also held the secretary role of the Horsham Referees Association, the Horsham District Sports Council and Roffey Robins Football Club, along with committee chairmanship of Roffey Robins and the Horsham Mini-Minor League.

As well as Jeff's practical assistance to other club staff and volunteers, he has also provided positive guiding advice through good times and bad, leading by example.

For over five decades Jeff has provided a stable and consistent, mainly administrative, support to the club and other organisations he has been involved with. Key to any successful organisation is its administration, which allows other elements to operate cohesively, safely and successfully. While Jeff may not always be seen as much as the players and coaches are, his presence and effectiveness, cannot be underestimated.

While all clubs have their stalwarts, Jeff has been an integral part of Horsham Football Club for so long. Quietly spoken and mild mannered, he goes about his club business with humility and good humour, while taking everything in his stride.

When the club was made homeless, he played a key role in keeping it going and with a few other club officers, played an intrinsic part in bringing the club back to the town. Horsham now has a wonderful stadium of its very own, that regularly welcomes crowds of more than 1,000 through the turnstiles.
