Eastbourne United Celebration

Whites too much for Swans

Storrington Community 0-6 Eastbourne United Association

Eastbourne United Association put in a clinical performance as they booked their place in the Third Round of the Sussex Transport Senior Cup with a 6-0 win over Storrington Community on Tuesday night.

Goals from Charlie Ball, Nathan Crabb, Gary Ingram and a Max Thompson hat-trick capped off a convincing display at Storrington’s Recreation Ground.

United got off to a dream start when they took the lead in under a minute. The ball was played straight into a wide area before putting it on a plate for Thompson who finished into the bottom corner.

From this point, Eastbourne took control and were moving the ball left and right very well, playing the game at a fast pace.

They almost had their second just eight minutes in when Ball forced a good stop from Harrison Mott. But just a few minutes later the second goal came when a low cut-back cross found Ingram in the area and he made no mistake and fired home.

United kept getting the ball into the wide areas which was causing Storrington a lot of problems as they struggled to match the fast pace set by the visitors.

Ball then added his name to the scoresheet on the half-hour mark when Crabb crossed from the right and Ball finished neatly at the near post, into the top corner.

For all the pressure that United put on, Storrington were putting bodies on the line to defend, quite literally when Matt Hards prevented Ingram from getting his second, stopping on the goal line with the ‘keeper beaten.

As we hit minute 45 however, United capped off a perfect first-half display with their fourth when the ball broke loose across the box and Thompson latched onto to it to snatch his second of the game.

Unfortunately for the home side, the second-half started as a carbon copy of the first with United scoring just two minutes in as Thompson grabbed his hat-trick to make it five.

From this point onwards the second-half went a bit flat with Storrington doing a much better job of containing United in the middle of the park.

Shortly before the hour mark, Mott pulled off an incredible save to deny Headland before Ovenden struck the crossbar on the rebound.

Storrington did their best to find an avenue back into the game but when Hards’ audacious half-way line effort dipped wide of the goal you knew it wasn’t their night.

With ten minutes to go, Crabb capped the game off with a sixth when he went on a darting run and slotted low past Mott.
