Jeff Barrett 50 years service

50 Year Service Award: Jeff Barrett

The FA Long Service Award

At our Annual Awards Evening, we were proud to present Jeff Barrett of Horsham Football Club with his FA Long Service Award celebrating 50 years in football.

At the end of the 2023/24 season Jeff completed a staggering 50 years’ service to Horsham FC, on the month of his 75th birthday.

Jeff joined the club all the way back in 1974 when the Hornets had just finished their debut season in the Isthmian League.

At the time, Jeff, then 25, was a qualified referee and secretary of both the Horsham Referees’ Association and the Horsham District Sports Council but was eager to add more to his growing football CV when he took on the role of treasurer at the football club.

It was a lively start to life at Horsham, with one of his first jobs to oversee the signing of Norman Gall from Brighton & Hove Albion who, after making 400+ appearances for the Seagulls, put pen to paper on a £17-a-week deal at the Hornets.

As the years went on, Jeff had a diverse range of roles including Club Secretary, which he did for 20 years, gateman, steward, PA announcer, programme editor, and even oversaw the snack bar at their old Queen Street Ground. Adding to all this, his list of footballing roles continued to grow, managing Roffey Robins, and a short spell on the committee for the Horsham Mini-Minor League.

His incredibly hard-working nature, devotion to the game and Horsham Football Club, earned him the title of Life Member in 2005, and he continued as Programme Editor and Club Secretary till the end of last season. His involvement with the club isn’t over though, he is now the Club President.

If you, or someone you know, would like to be recognised for a significant milestone, simply fill out the form below, and we’ll be in touch.
